Which is the best age to start an orthodontic treatment?
Any age is best for an orthodontic treatment to regain a beautiful smile, but there is certain most favorable age for this treatment. If the treatment is begun at this age, you get the best results and require least time and money for it. It is recommended by The American Association of Orthodontists that the treatment should begin as soon as the first occurrence of orthodontic problems or not after 7 years of age. It is not always required to take the orthodontic treatment at such a young age, yet a careful examination can better foretell the most beneficial age to initiate the treatment.
What are the advantages of early orthodontic examination?
Because of early examination, the problem is detected early and so, the chances of treatment being more effective, increase. Timely intervention can prevent future problems and helps in growth and development. If the orthodontic treatment is not needed, the orthodontist can monitor the growth and development carefully and start the treatment when it is necessary.
Why is age 7 the most recommended time for screening?
It is at the age of 7 when the adult molars come out for the first time to establish the back bite. It is the best time for an orthodontist to find out the front-to-back and side-to-side evaluation of teeth. For example, by looking at the erupting incisors the orthodontist can make conclusions about overbite, crowding, open bite or gummy smiles. The chances of a beautiful smile increase with timely screening.
How is the interceptive treatment advantageous?
There are several benefits of interceptive treatment, like, providing enough space for crowded, emerging teeth, encouraging jaw growth and thereby creating facial symmetry, decreasing the risk of trauma to protruded front teeth, keeping space for the teeth which have not erupted yet, decreasing the need of removal of tooth and decreasing the time required for braces.
Are you liable to orthodontic treatment?
Aesthetic smile is not the only aim of orthodontics; orthodontic treatment brings improvement to bad bites or malocclusions too. Where the teeth or jaws are misaligned, malocclusions take place. The way you smile, you feel about your smile, your way of chewing and cleaning of teeth are all influenced by malocclusions.
Why is it required to treat malocclusions?
The study by The American Association of Orthodontists says that many problems can take place due to untreated malocclusions. Clean-up or floss of crowded teeth is problematic and can promote tooth decay and/or harm to gums. Particularly, protruding teeth are more prone to sudden chipping. Unsound growth and distorted tooth wear can result from crossbites. Problems of speech and habit of tongue-thrusting are caused by openbites. Thus, orthodontics is meant for much more than just making your smile prettier; it improves your health.
